We are many things to the Fae. Toys, servants, entertainment, and a few lucky ones are almost considered equal among their offspring. Most of us are taken by the Fae as children, lost to our human parents, and changed by magic forever. Never truly a part of their world and severed from our own. Constantly struggling for even an inch of ground to stand on. But we didn't wither and we are still standing.
The Foundlings are the human children that were stolen or taken in by Fae to plant their own spawn in the human world. Most of those taken wither quickly in the "care" of Fae but some actually grow up and get to play a small part in their world.
Almost all Foundling are treated harshly and are mainly a source of amusement, like a mouse at the mercy of a cat. It is rare that a Fae takes pity or even truly cares for one and even if a Fae acts like they are fond of them, most Foundling have been burned before.
Humans on the other hand often try everything in their power to retrieve their children. Sometimes through cruelty against the swapped Changeling, sometimes through sacrifice and offerings. Rarely does this end well for them and often cuts every tie a Foundling had in the human world - the Fae are not prone to mercy or non-beneficial kindness. Once they have claimed a toy, they rarely like to give it back. On top of this, Foundlings have been permanently warped by the mirage and losing most of what made them human, to begin with, but also they never truly become Fae.
So they never feel at home in either world. Some survive by learning to play by the everchanging rules their new caretakers come up with, others just through sheer rebellious spite, but almost all of them are longing for more.
Not considered their own Kin
They are not considered as their own group and when the time for the Harvest Dance comes around, a Foundling travels alongside the Kin that raised them. This opens up a rare opportunity to interact with the few other Foundling in existence and feel a semblance of togetherness.
